Spartan Spirit Shines at Homecoming

The Elmont Memorial school community braved the rain and cold temperatures when they came out for the school’s annual homecoming on Oct. 22.

The theme for this year’s event was “Elmont Celebrates the Decades” and included beautiful floats that featured Principal Kevin Dougherty and Assistant Principals Brian Burke and Alicia Calabrese. Although the parade was canceled due to rain and high winds, students and community members headed to the football game to support the Spartans, who did not disappoint.

The Spartans fought hard against Mepham High School, ultimately winning 35-33. Joshua Milfort St. Cyr delivered an outstanding performance, scoring four touchdowns during the game.

During halftime, Vincent McDonald and Karina Alfaro were named homecoming king and queen. Congratulations to Joanne Ruthman, the mother of Spartan quarterback Aaron Ruthman, on being named Best Spartan Mom.

Also in attendance at the game were members of the school’s Class of 1966, who orchestrated their reunion to coincide with the homecoming festivities.
